The main steps to follow in the extraction of AMYGDALIN/VITAMIN B17 are summarized below :

1. Selection of apricot kernels.
2. Cleaning the Apricot Kernels. Keeping as the principal objective the elimination of shells, husks, rock and leaves which might damage the mills.
3. Milling the apricot kernels. With this, it is possible to separate most of the oil from the initial milling and the remainder in the subsequent millings. The product from the milling is a fine, brownish powder with a bitter odor which, upon letting it sit, ferments spontaneously, which is desirable, because with it the yield from the extraction is increased.
4. Dissolving the powder. A stainless steel digester is used in the presence of isopropyl alcohol at a constant temperature and with constant reflux of the alcohol, for a period of 2 1/2 hours.
5. Filtering. One uses filters on very fine cloth so as to avoid the passage of particles of the powder which are not digested. The resulting product is allowed to sit for 72 hours, and is then washed with ethylic ether eliminate the isopropyl alcohol.
6. Drying the AMYGDALIN/VITAMIN B17. The dry, white powder, product of the filtering, is spread out on stainless steel dishes and is exposed for eight hours to temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees C. The project is 65 through 80% percent pure AMYGDALIN/VITAMIN B17.
7. Crystallization. This is completed in closed, glass, vacuum receptacles after exposing the AMYGDALIN/VITAMIN B17 to a mixture of activated carbon and ionized earth which act as a filter. The final product is AMYGDALIN/VITAMIN B17 with a purity of no less than 96%.

USA, June, 2004, Jason Wale was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison for advertising and selling the anti-cancer laetrile-based drug, extracted from apricot seeds, which had been officially banned as early as 2000. Laetrile is more widely known as amygdalin or vitamin B17. Dr. Lester M. Crawford, authorized by FDA, justified the ban. He claimed that there’d been no scientific evidence that laetrile could cure cancer and that Wale’d given people false promises. Later on, Edward Griffin and Dr. Krebs published their book “World Without Cancer” that was based on the data backed up by scientific studies of vitamin B17 properties (Dr. Krebs also found vitamin B17 content in seeds of sweet cherry, apples, peaches and grapes, but in less quantity). They state that daily consumption of 7 apricot seeds helps prevent the risk of cancer. And if cancer has already developed, vitamin B17 consumption reduces cancerous growth. Lab experiments proved that vitamin B17 could destroy cancer cells.

Public opinion and experts think Jason Wale who cured himself of cancer and tried to help others was sacrificed by influential official health care institutes and pharmaceutical industry that couldn’t benefit from unpatented natural product.

Apricot seeds are taken by many people as a cancer treatment as they contain high doses of Vitamin B17, an immune system enhancer. However, apricot seeds also contain cyanide, a poison. The Food Standards Agency (UK) has advised people to take no more than two bitter apricot kernels a day. Higher doses could be dangerous for human health. A UK retailer, Julian Gray, was selling 10 seeds a day doses of apricot seeds. The retailer says it will re-sell them at not such a high dose (the present dose is not longer for sale).
